Linda Howe-Ely

Linda was born in Port Elizabeth and completed a Higher Diploma in Fine Art at the Port Elizabeth Technikon. She has lived in Cape Town since the 1990s, has exhibited with various art societies and groups over the years, and has won awards for her work in competitions. She exhibits regularly at the Richard Crowie Hall in the Kirstenbosch National Botanical Garden.
Her work explores the beauty of the local landscape, particularly the mountains and their unique flora. "I am endlessly inspired by the dramatic interplay of light and shadow, and how this interaction transforms a familiar view into a new visual experience. I aim to capture the momentary dance of sunlight as it creates shadows, and the rich colours of the plants that emerge in the light. My paintings aim to draw the viewer's eye to these often-overlooked details, and to to convey the same sense of appreciation I feel when witnessing these scenes. Through my work, I invite the viewer to slow down and find beauty not just in the grand views, but in the everyday moments of the natural world" she says.
